This workshop isn’t skills-based and we don’t want you to care if your doodles meet any arbitrary definition of “good,” so we encourage you to leave any drawing skill you may have at the door with a fun game Leveller game - an activity that makes us all equally terrible at drawing. Usually a space filling doodle, or dice-based pattern (we provide dice rolls) Warm-up/down doodle - made in the 10 minutes before we kick off so early arrivals can get settled in, or for 15 mins after the workshop, so anyone who wants to ask questions or chat can join us in winding down. Here’s what you can expect from an RDC monthly workshop - each requires a minimum of one pen/pencil and a sheet of paper (lined or plain, either is fine) Now admire your garden design, which hopefully looks a bit like it’s been drawn on a rollercoaster! Try and take that spirit of fun with you through the next few activities, and don’t worry too much about what your drawings look like. Pick a point on your page to place your pen, and then draw some flowerbeds containing any flowers you like, but with one continuous line Lastly you’re going to draw without lifting your pen from the paper. Add some trees to your garden - of any kind you like, and in any location within your design If you’re ambidextrous, try holding the pen between your two palms. Put your pen in your non-dominant hand - if you usually draw/write with your left hand use your right for this activity, if you’re right-handed use your left. ![]() Draw the outline of the garden and any features built into it like the path, a pond, or a fence, without looking down at the paper Put your pen in the top left corner of the paper, and look away from your page. Now we’re going to draw it really badly in 1 minute stints! If you’re trying this at home use your phone or a kitchen timer There are some trees, and a flowerbed or two. Maybe you imagine the sounds in a garden, maybe you visualise it, however you best identify a garden in your mind is fine. Imagine you’re standing at the back of a terraced house, facing it’s garden. ![]()
